Karin makes her return from the Street Fighter Alpha series in SFV. Though she looks and feels similar, her SFV version has undergone some changes that make her different from her Alpha incarnation. The biggest change is that her rekka attack, Guren Ken, is only available when Karin is in V-Trigger. Additionally the first two hits are automatic and massively unsafe, meaning that she cannot use the move as a general footsie tool. To compensate, her options off the Guren Ken have been expanded to include mix-ups, and with the right choices she can deal a lot of damage.

With good pokes and normals, Karin has a very strong ground game. Her jumping game is average, with standard jump-ins plus a cross-up. One of Karin's biggest weaknesses is her anti-air, as her normals are not as reliable compared to the rest of the cast. Her EX Ressenha serves as her best anti-air and reversal, but leaves her massively open if missed, and with her lower health the punish is sure to hurt.

Most of her specials, including Mujinkyaku and Ressenha, leave her unsafe on block, which puts a heavy emphasis on her normals in the neutral game. Fortunately, Karin responds well. With her good walk and dash speed, and distance-covering normals such as her Seppo command dash and smart usage of Ressenha, Karin has a strong footsie game and can cover a lot of distance in a short amount of time.

Karin is a precision character, good for people who like to play a technical, ground-based game. She has a lot of mix-up options, including options from Guren Ken, but they all pose significant risk to her. With the right choices and good matchup knowledge, Karin can dominate a match, but it requires you to be on top of your game.

Move List[edit | edit source]

english move list translations: https://redd.it/3q4xy2

Notes for understanding the Move List:

  • An uncolored attack icon (Any Punch Button or Any Kick button) means the attack properties change when using different attack strengths. A light punch fireball Quarter Circle Forward input+Light Punch button moves slower than a heavy punch fireball Quarter Circle Forward input+Heavy Punch button
  • Pressing more than one button with the corresponding motion for a special move executes a more powerful version of the attack, but costs one bar of EX-Gauge meter: http://i.imgur.com/GZgAmLN.png
  • Unique attacks don't require a full motion input like special moves, but do require an additional directional input, such as forward or back.
  • V-System Abilities share the same input command across the entire cast, but the affects are different for every character.
